Under Exposed? | 24 Aug 06

Look familiar? This shot was taken about 30 minutes earlier than the last one and a bit futher west, along the promenade. I think the photos are just about different enough to justify posting both.

There's still the blown-out sky which is maybe a little intense, but I like the heavy silhouette and the generally dark scene that it has created. This is why I like to take as many photos as I can while I'm there, changing settings and seeing what works.

No, the blown-out sky is excellent. It's the whole reason for the picture (isn't it?). If you don't mind my saying, I would have liked a little bit of brightening in the land below to reveal some detail. Not a lot, just enough for a glimpse of what's there.

BTW, "to justify posting both". Yes, I tend to think that way, too, but after all, it is your blog. I have to keep reminding myself of that.posted by Jack on August 24, 2006 1:00PM
I agree with Jack that the blown out sky is irrelevant in an image such as this. The heavy silhouette is what makes this spectacular and the otherwise dark feel of the image. Nicely done.posted by Dennis Rogers on August 25, 2006 4:37AM
The dark feel makes the photo more intense, I agree, Worth posting it :)posted by Reflexe on August 25, 2006 11:27AM

A little bit of underexposure usually works well during a sunset or sunrise situation. This is a beautiful image.posted by micki on August 27, 2006 10:35AM
